Lecture: The Female Architects of Wrocław following the screening of CITY DREAMERS, dir. Joseph Hillel
Language: Polish
Partner institution: MIASTOmovie
Though the twentieth century had theoretically brought the equality of the sexes, equalizing incomes and professional status of male and female employees can be a chancy thing indeed. The situation is no better in architecture. What does it look like in our city? Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak managed to gain independence and become an excellent, renowned architect—but what were the fates of other female architects in Communist times? Are things looking any better today? What did the statistics of female graduates of the Faculty of Architecture at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology look like and how did that impact their professional activity?
Guest:
Joanna Majczyk—architect professionally affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, researcher into the postwar architecture of Wrocław and its creators
