Mothers, daughters, feminists. Discussion about DAUGHTER RITE with Agnieszka Graff, PhD

following the screening of DAUGHTER RITE, dir. Michelle Citron

Language: Polish

Partners: Home Movie Day Warsaw, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Friends of the MoMA

Michelle Citron’s classic, experimental “Daughter Rite” not only upends the audience’s viewing habits and expectations of the reflection of reality in documentary film—it also portrays the complex relationship of its protagonists and their mother. Are the daughters capable of understanding her choices? Is their rebellion against their mother merely repeating a cliché? Agnieszka Graff will discuss the film in the context of second-wave feminism and mother-daughter relationships.

Guest:

Agnieszka Graff, PhD — professor at the American Studies Center of the University of Warsaw, scholar of feminism and anti-gender movements, feminist opinion journalist, essayist, and writer. Member of the Council of Polish Women’s Congress.
