Discussion: An evening with people who love books and indie bookstores following the screening of THE BOOKSELLERS, dir. D.W. Young

Language: Polish

Partner institutions: Książki kupuję kameralnie, Rezerwaty książek

Niche, independent bookstores, like the ones portrayed in THE BOOKSELLERS, are a dying breed both in Poland and the US. Luckily, they have champions in both countries: stalwart booksellers on a mission. Do traditional bookstores have a chance to survive? Who even buys books in our times? Why do we need human contact in this process? We’ll discuss all this and more with writer Zygmunt Miłoszewski and bookseller Jakub Bułat.

Moderator:

Anna Karczewska—cultural animator and manager, founder of Kolektyw Księgarzy Kameralnych and initiator of the Książki Kupuję Kameralnie movement. Employee of the State Publishing Institute PIW.

Guests:

Zygmunt Miłoszewski—writer and opinion journalist, co-author of movie and TV scripts, recipient of the 2014 Paszport “Polityki” award. Author of crime and mystery novels.

Jakub Bułat—bookseller and erudite, in the 1980s he was the editor of an irregular magazine “Czerwony Kapturek – Dlaczego robić raczej coś niźli nic?”. Bułat has been running the Tarabuk bookstore in Warsaw for 15 years.
