Lecture: The magic of sea creatures following the screening of SEA OF SHADOWS, dir. Richard Ladkani
Language: Polish
Partner institution: ZOO Wrocław
“Sea of Shadows” follows a group of scientists, ecologists, and activists battling poaching cartels in the face of government indolence and corruption. After the screening of this eco-thriller, employees of the Wrocław zoological garden will discuss the incredible lives of sea creatures and the ways of protecting endangered species—because totoabas and vaquita porpoises are far from the only silent victims of poaching for the Chinese market. Along with climate change, poaching is one of the main causes of species extinction in our times.
Guests:
Jakub Kordas—graduate of the Biology Department at the University of Wrocław, currently manages the aquarium section of the Wrocław ZOO, including the first oceanarium in Poland—the Africarium.
Anna Mękarska—Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, expert on species protection at the Wrocław ZOO. Chair of the DODO Foundation working to save animals in their natural habitat.
