Mistresses of the Gaze. On intertextual found footage films by female directors. Before the screening of MY MEXICAN BRETZEL, dir. Nuria Giménez

Language: Polish

Partner institutions: Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Friends of the MoMA, Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art in Berlin

Nuria Giménez’s movie combines fragments of the diary of the protagonist, Vivian Barret, with home footage shot by her husband Léon, depicting their daily life. A question arises from the evolving relationship between the text and the footage: how is Vivian’s image created? Professor Małgorzata Radkiewicz will present her lecture on the creation of women’s image in found-footage films by female directors.

Guest:

Professor Małgorzata Radkiewicz, PhD — film scholar, employee of the Institute of Audiovisual Arts at the Jagiellonian University. Radkiewicz studies female creators in cinema, photography, and art.
