Online meeting with protagonist Barbora Kysilkova following the screening of THE PAINTER AND THE THIEF

Languages: English and Polish

Barbora Kysilkova, a Czech painter living in Oslo, finds out that two of her paintings had been stolen from a gallery. CCTV footage leads to a quick arrest. Barbora shows up at the hearing and offers the perpetrator, Karl Bertil Noland, a meeting. She really wants her paintings back, but the thief’s personality fascinates her. Her curiosity is based in empathy. It turns out Nordland had been too high to remember what he did with the paintings, but he remembers stealing them “because they were very beautiful”.

Guest:

Barbora Kysilkova — the titular protagonist of the award-winning documentary „The Painter and the Thief”; after the loss of two paintings she made a connection with the thief, beginning a relationship both fascinating and toxic.

Moderator:

Agnieszka Maciejewska — longtime journalist with Radio Merkury, graduate of the Faculty of Journalism at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Cinema was her beat and she covered all of its aspects—from reviewing movies in video rental stores to covering major film festivals. Maciejewska collaborates with indie cinemas in Poznań as well as with numerous cultural institutions. A voracious watcher, which leaves her less time for reading; her holidays are filled with hard work sailing the seas.
