Meeting with Jan Grarup, the protagonist of PHOTOGRAPHER OF WAR following the screening of PHOTOGRAPHER OF WAR
Languages: English and Polish
He witnessed the Rwandan genocide and photographed war zones; it brought him fame and his best-known works depict burning ruins, a child preparing a terrorist attack in Mosul, or a woman in a bombed-out hotel in Mogadishu staring at the sea. Danish photographer Jan Grarup is the master of war photography. His photos regularly appear in some of the widest-read newspapers of the world, including Newsweek, The Guardian, Sunday Times Magazine, Stern, GEO, Paris Match, and La Repubblica. This documentary is a psychological portrait of a photographer deeply involved in his work and the constant pursuit of new challenges, a man who’s been documenting the horrors of war for 25 years—who suddenly faces a new internal struggle, assuming the role of a responsible father and partner. It turns out that photography is an excellent tool in the fight against death on and off the battlefield.
